THIS WEEK WE ASK IF FUTURE TECHNOLOGY IS IN FAVOUR OF PRINTERS

The Metaverse and printers; CGSO regulations; labelling and advertising of food; and DTG, DTF, or Hybrid?
We look at the newly named ‘metaverse’ and see how the burgeoning digital landscape could offer opportunities rather than concerns for printers.

Around this time every winter, the world’s greatest English language dictionary makers reveal what their words of the year are. For decades, the accepted approach for printing on apparel has been screen printing to plain blanks or transfer prints. But the newer alternatives of hybrid transfer and direct-to-film transfers are rapidly gaining market share – and for good reasons.

In 2022, a few Printing SA members were contacted directly by the office of the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO). Printing SA further enquired from the CGSO to understand the requirements.

1. It is mandatory for all eligible businesses to comply with the provisions of the Consumer Goods and Services Industry Code of Conduct.
2. To register with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman.
3. To contribute towards the funding of the CGSO in accordance with the funding model approved by CGSO’s board.
4. Eligible businesses include all suppliers in the consumer goods and services industry.

It is mandatory because the code also covers our sector as per the definition of supplier and supply chain in terms of the Consumer Protection Act.
